Get Your Email Marketing Started

If you haven’t already started email marketing for your business, now is a good time to get it going. Reports show that email marketing offers one of the highest return of investment among various marketing channels. If you do it the right way, email marketing is one of the most cost-effective ways to generate sales. Here are some tips and pointers to get you started:

Get Your Email Marketing List Together
·         Start by collecting email addresses and add an opt-in form on your website, blog and applicable social networks, so new people can sign up to join your list.
·         Avoid surprises by letting your subscriber know how often you will be mailing them and what type of information you will be sending them. This helps them set expectations and trust you better.
·         Providing specific information based on the customer’s interest is a better approach than one-size-fits-all. Segment your list based on the type information your subscribers are looking for.
·         Be consistent with your mails, and keep your word on how often you have promised to mail them. This is crucial in trust building with your customers.
·         Most importantly, do not add anyone to your email list without their permission.

Do Not Neglect Your Content
·         Avoid sending only sale pitches to your subscribers. Rather post contents your readers may be interested in knowing - something they can benefit from reading your mail. It could be tips, product help, benefits etc. This way they have something to gain from reading your email. ‘Give some - take some’ always works.
·         Keep your message simple and easy to read. Using bullets and subheadings and breaking up longer paragraphs are some tricks to make your emails easier to scan and digest.
·         Take the time to figure out what your company stands for. This way you will be able to convey a clear message to your customers.
·         Avoid typos, broken links or other errors. Make sure that you have edited and proof-read your content before you hit the send button.
